Zong is not available in Italy because mobile operators are greedy
Me: May I ask you why you don’t have a deal with a mobile operator in Italy, where there is a relevant mobile market? Has it nothing to do with a certain lack of competition, here?
Zong: Hi markingegno: the main reason for having a “black hole” in Italy is the fact that operators are really too greedy there. They retain about 65% of what end-users pay and they’re very difficult to deal with. When revenue share becomes in line with the rest of the world, we will add coverage.
Me: That’s exactly the answer I was expecting. Thank you for your reply, I hope that day will come soon. I’ll blog about it, but I don’t think it really will lead to anything. I’m ashamed.
A honest reply, an horrible truth. That’s basically why this wonderful country goes slower than its European (and not-European) competitors, as it happens in many other key sector as well.
