“So yeah, Twitter started out as a place for Shaq to report that he had just eaten pancakes. But hasn’t it evolved in a much more fascinating direction? In sports, athletes finally have a way to bypass the media completely. Sometimes their tweets are interesting, sometimes they’re stupid. Kevin Love broke news that his coach wasn’t coming back on Twitter. That was interesting. Chad Ochocinco wrote, “Okay, first Mrs. Fawcett, now Mr. Jackson, please tell me that this is a mistaken rumor, if not this is just as sad as 9/11.” That was stupid. But think about how fast this moved. How many stories will break on Twitter each week? How many athletes will get into trouble by writing something dumb? How many Twitter-related apologies will be issued per week? How will franchises use Twitter to sell tickets, merchandise and everything else? Which mainstream website will strike a deal with Twitter first? Will I be tweeting my annual draft diary next year? Where is this going?” ESPN.com - Bill Simmons
(via peterwknox) Maybe nothing of this will happen, but who could say it today? Wake up!

“The case of Seesmic is even more interesting. I don’t think other people than Loic could have raised such amount of money for a service like that. Loic is a public figure, famous for his previous successful deals as well as for the conference he founded and runs, LaWeb. There are, in my opinion, more interesting and innovative ideas that deserve more money than what actually get. But, at the end of the day, he succeeded in getting that money” Why Seesmic Failed — LucaFiligheddu.com

Gillmor Gang Thoughts (via 1938digital)

“You trust who you trust […] and disclosure doesn’t change that […] disclosure doesn’t give effect to the person.”

Great, Loren, I completely agree.

Thank to God it is not available here in Italy. I don’t want to spend all that money, but I’m weak, and it’s absolutely gorgeous.

How Twitter Will Change the Way We Live - TIME

“Twitter turns out to have unsuspected depth. In part this is because hearing about what your friends had for breakfast is actually more interesting than it sounds. The technology writer Clive Thompson calls this “ambient awareness”: by following these quick, abbreviated status reports from members of your extended social network, you get a strangely satisfying glimpse of their daily routines.”

“Web advertising, though down, isn’t suffering nearly as badly as more-established media like magazines and TV, where a pullback by advertisers has set off a wave of layoffs, bancruptcy filings and fears the won’t ever be the same. Online, however, the experts are writing off the setback as merely temporary.” Paul Tharp, New York Post (via soupsoup)
